Bone Marrow Transplant
Stem cell or bone marrow transplants are treatments for some types of cancer including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. You have them with high dose chemotherapy and sometimes radiotherapy. They are sometimes called stem cell rescue, or bone marrow rescue, or intensive treatment.Autolog (Transfer from the patient)
An autologous stem cell transplant uses healthy blood stem cells from your own body to replace bone marrow that’s not working properly. An autologous stem cell transplant is also called an autologous bone marrow transplant.
Allogeneic (transplantation from siblings, mothers, fathers, unrelated donors)
If you have an allogeneic transplant, you will get healthy blood-forming cells donated by someone else. The donor can be a family member or someone unrelated to you. Sometimes, people get donated blood-forming cells from umbilical cord blood.
Haploidentic (Semi-fit; mother, father, brother)
A haploidentical transplant is a type of allogeneic transplant. It uses healthy, blood-forming cells from a half- matched donor to replace the unhealthy ones. The donor is typically a family member. For allogeneic transplants, your doctor tests your blood to find out your human leukocyte antigen (HLA) type.
